"down on the funny farm"
3RD PLACE BEST OF SHOW!
Fall 2016 - Our exhibit won two ribbons at the Southern New Mexico State Fair including a 3rd place purple ribbon, best in show and a 3rd place white ribbon, best in lot. Using the fair's theme of DOWN ON THE FUNNY FARM my k-2 classes, Mrs. Smith's 3-5 graders and Gail Law's preschoolers created a fun-filled farm. Our centerpiece, "American Gothic" Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head and house was created by Mrs. Smith's students and the preschoolers. My Kindergartners built and painted 2-D craft stick tractors with Pete the Cat in the driver's seat. 1st graders were influenced by Karla Gerard's folk art as they cut out and painted "floral cows". 2nd grade artists created parodies (funny redo) of Grant Wood's "Amerian Gothic" (named for the architectural style of the house in the background). They drew and painted the famous house and drew, colored and cut out a pair of cartoon characters to replace the farmer and his daughter. 3rd grade painted and constructed colorful running horses. 4th graders decorated their complementary colored boots with their name in cursive. 5th grade art students made landscape collages as backgrounds for the 1st grade cows.

WE WON best in show
and best in lot!!!
Fall 2015 - Our exhibit won three ribbons at the Southern New Mexico State Fair including a blue ribbon, best in show and best in lot. Using the fair's theme of SPACE PARTY my k-2 classes, Cindy Smith's 3-5 graders and Gail Law's preschoolers created a fantasy outer space scape for Minions. For our party, the preschoolers created the papier mache sun and moon. Kindergarten made marble painted shooting stars. 1st grade created tubular Minions and put them in Star Wars character costumes. Mobiles of tissue paper planets and metallic spirals were done by the 2nd grade. 3rd grade created Nebulas by pendulum painting large pieces of paper. 4th grade created space bubbles and assembled them into cubes while 5th grade used math skills to create geodesic domes. A big thank you to Tim Smith for helping us hang and dismantle this display.
